Download your host tools
We've done the prep so you don't have to.
Download signs, social graphics, pricing tools and our Host Checklist to help make garage sale day easy.
Get the word out
Hilton Precinct will be promoting the Community Garage Sale as a whole, but a little advertising of your own can help get even more bargain hunters to your door.
Share your sale in local Facebook community, buy/sell and garage sale groups. Tell people where you are, what time you're starting and, most importantly, give them a taste of what they'll find!
Share your sale on Facebook
We've put together some useful local Facebook groups where you can advertise your sale.
Remember to check each group's rules before posting, as some only allow sales or promotional posts on particular days.

GARAGE SALE THIS SATURDAY!
We’re joining the Hilton Precinct Community Garage Sale this Saturday from 8am.
We’ll have [ADD YOUR BEST ITEMS HERE] plus plenty more looking for new homes.
📍 [YOUR STREET/ADDRESS]
⏰ From 8am
📅 Saturday 5 September
There are garage sales happening all across Hilton, so make a morning of it and check out the Hilton Precinct Garage Sale Map to plan your route.
See you Saturday!
Make it work harder: Add 3–5 photos of the best things you're selling. Furniture, plants, tools, toys, collectables and unusual items are much more likely to get people interested than a photo of boxes.

Make your sale worth stopping for

Price it to sell
Garage sale shoppers are looking for bargains. Price things at an amount you'd genuinely be happy to accept to see them leave your house.
Want it gone? Price low.
Happy to take it back inside? Price higher.
Actually valuable? Check online first.
Put the good stuff out front
People often decide whether to stop from the car. Put interesting, colourful or larger items somewhere they can easily see from the street.
Give them a reason to pull over!
Get it off the ground
Tables and clothes racks make things much easier to browse.
Use boxes, baskets and picnic rugs for toys, books, bargain items and larger things.
Group things together
Books with books. Kids' stuff with kids' stuff. Kitchenware together. Clothes by size if you can.
You don't need to create a shop, just make it easy for people to see what you've got.
Have change ready
Keep some $5 and $10 notes and coins handy.
PayID can also be useful if you’re comfortable accepting electronic payments, but be mindful of payment scams. Never rely on a screenshot or email as proof of payment. If in doubt, stick with cash.
Expect some haggling
It's part of garage sale life!
If you'd happily take $15 for something marked $20, make the deal. If you're firm on the price, that's okay too.
Didn't sell everything?
That's okay!
Before putting everything back in the cupboard for another five years, give it another chance at finding a new home.
Buy Nothing
Offer useful items to neighbours through your local Buy Nothing group.
Facebook Marketplace
Great for furniture, larger items and anything that might still be worth selling individually.
Gumtree
Another option for selling or giving away your leftover items.
Donate
Clean, usable items may be welcomed by a local op shop. Check what they're currently accepting before dropping things off.
Verge Collection
Book a Verge Valet Collection. Please don't leave unwanted items on the verge unless they're part of an authorised collection.
Ready?
Price your stuff. Share your sale. Put the coffee on.
We'll take care of getting Hilton out treasure hunting.
Thank you for being part of the Hilton Precinct Community Garage Sale and helping make it a great day around our neighbourhood.
