Wolfe Verge
The Wolfe Verge project focuses on removing couch grass from two verges on Butson and Oldham Streets in Hilton to create a wildlife corridor, enhance biodiversity, beautify the area, and improve urban cooling through the establishment of shrubs and other vegetation. This initiative will also contribute to traffic calming efforts, making the streets safer and more inviting for pedestrians and local wildlife.
The project is led by the Gardens, Verges, and Trees Committee of the Hilton Precinct, with assistance from the South Fremantle Colts players and their coach. Together, this collaboration highlights community spirit and shared responsibility for creating a greener and more sustainable future in Hilton.
We extend our sincere thanks to the City of Fremantle for their generous support through a grant, which has been instrumental in making this possible.

Week One
The majority of the couch grass was carefully removed by hand from both verge sites. Special attention was given to areas near existing trees to ensure their roots were not damaged during the process.

Week Two
The final removal of couch grass was completed, with the uprooted grass added to the skip bin for disposal.
Week Three
The Gardens, Verges, and Trees (GVT) group coordinated with the City of Fremantle to arrange the delivery of mulch. This mulch was spread across the area, completing the final touches on the Wolfe Verge revamp.

Next Steps
The owners of Wolfe Verge will take responsibility for hand-weeding couch grass as it grows. The planting of native gardens is scheduled to be completed in Autumn 2025.
